Remembering...

As we stand here

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

Luckily, my great-grandpa Douglas didn't die in the war. He was able to come home and spend a long life with his family. While I was growing up, he really was one of my best friends. I spent a LOT of time over at their house while I was little. He always made perfect scrambled eggs, and always had bacon ready for me after school. He took me to recycle his Coke cans, and drove me to Ballet. I remember many nights watching 60 minutes and eating Malts and Whoppers with him. After we moved to St. George, he went to almost every basketball, softball and soccer game I ever played in. And when I was sick, he always brought me ice cream from Maverick. Even when he was older, and started to get sick, I would go over to "watch" him and he would tell me stories all evening. He had this thing where every time we wore an "Old Navy" shirt, he's go on and on about how he was the TRUE OLD NAVY! :) One year, we gave him an Old Navy shirt of his own, and he wore it with pride. He loved his family so much, as we did him. He passed away back in 2002, and I miss him. A lot. I was really close to him. But I hope that I will aways be able to remember him, and his dedication to this country. He was a great man. I wish I had more pictures of him on my computer. I'm glad that my grandpa got to come home from the war safe... and I'm grateful that so many men have laid down their life for this country and our freedom...

Response to your post -
The Washington Community Center is in Washington. You go down telegraph street, pass walmart and then turn left on 300 North. And then you turn right after you pass the cemetery and that will bring you to the parking lot. (offical address 340N Community Center Drive) It's slightly hidden behind a building from the road, but if you look you can see it.
It's 110,000 square feet, It has three full-size gyms, cardio and weight room, indoor track, aerobic classes, rock climbing wall, reception/banquet center and they say Utah’s largest indoor aquatic complex. You'll have to check it out this summer. You can look at it at www.washingtoncity.org

Oh that's so fun! That was the best show I ever did! As far as renting them out or letting you borrow them, I think your chances are good, cuz they let some school in Colorado City borrow them a while back. I would just call SGMT directly and ask for whomever is in charge of costumes! Their number is 435-628-8755 good luck! Ryan Norton directed it also...

Jenna- Thanks for the tips! I just got elements as well, I had photoshop 8.0 (or something) and was about to tear my hair out in frustration! So my hubby got me elements as a surprise but with Alyse attempting the toddler bed transition at the moment (not going well) I haven't had any time to play around with it! Is it hard to upload your digital scrapbook papers, etc. so that you can use them? I am so very illiterate when it comes to digital scrapbooking! I saw the mothers day pages you made, so cute! and I am loving that website thanks!

o i am still trying to figure it all out- I mess around with it daily. To get it with just the one thing colored and the rest black and white you have to duplicate the original layer(picture) change it to black and white then pull the eraser out and just erase what you want to be colored. If that makes any sense you kinda have to play with it a couple times to get it.

What a great memorial day reminder! Yeah, My Mom grew up in Kanab, UT. She always talks about this particular boyfriend that she had in high school that lived in Orderville. She also had piano lessons in Orderville and would sneak to his house after piano lessons.... Crazy! We live in Vegas, as do Michael and Heidi. Heidi's teaching Theatre in Boulder City, and Michael's working for an explosives company. They seem truly happy!
