Remembering...

As we stand here

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

-Michelle R. Christman

Luckily, my great-grandpa Douglas didn't die in the war. He was able to come home and spend a long life with his family. While I was growing up, he really was one of my best friends. I spent a LOT of time over at their house while I was little. He always made perfect scrambled eggs, and always had bacon ready for me after school. He took me to recycle his Coke cans, and drove me to Ballet. I remember many nights watching 60 minutes and eating Malts and Whoppers with him. After we moved to St. George, he went to almost every basketball, softball and soccer game I ever played in. And when I was sick, he always brought me ice cream from Maverick. Even when he was older, and started to get sick, I would go over to "watch" him and he would tell me stories all evening. He had this thing where every time we wore an "Old Navy" shirt, he's go on and on about how he was the TRUE OLD NAVY! :) One year, we gave him an Old Navy shirt of his own, and he wore it with pride. He loved his family so much, as we did him. He passed away back in 2002, and I miss him. A lot. I was really close to him. But I hope that I will aways be able to remember him, and his dedication to this country. He was a great man. I wish I had more pictures of him on my computer. I'm glad that my grandpa got to come home from the war safe... and I'm grateful that so many men have laid down their life for this country and our freedom...

Flash Back Friday.

So I've seen a few people do this, and I thought it was really fun. I've wanted to do it for the past couple weeks, but always forgot when it got to Friday...
I had quite a few flashbacks to this week, so I thought I'd share some pictures of those memories with you guys.
The first was graduation. It's been four years... I can't believe it. It really seems like yesterday most days. There's been many graduations to go to the last couple weeks, and of course it made me think of my high school graduation. Here's most of our little gang after the ceremony. (TOP: Scott Gale, Scott Curtis, Burke Bess, Richard Hulse. BOTTOM: Danielle Brown, Taran Hansen, Morgan Fielding, Me, Jessica Williams)

The Second flashback I had today was from 9th grade- Christmas Dance. "When you say nothing at all" was playing and Jake Baker "asked me out" while we were dancing. haha. oh... 9th grade. Wow. (Jeff and I were singing Kareoke tonight, and we sang this song together- hence the memory) The first was at the starting of 9th, and the second was taken at girls camp after 9th grade. (Morgan, Lacey, Mallory, and me)

One more memory was of Morgan and I, and the rest of my roomies in college. I really had the best time with my roommates! Sometimes, we were a little crazy, and had little... "disagreements"... but for the most part we all got along really well and a really good year. I was thinking about the first day when we were "breaking the ice" with our roomies, Morgan and I started dancing and leaping down the hall of our apartment to "Break Away". I'm sure the others were wondering what they were getting into. We had some great times though!

Tagged...

So, I guess that's what I get after being on hiatus for so long... Three tags to answer to! Sorry this is going to be so long...

#1
The rules of the game are posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post the player then tags 5 other people and posts their names.

1.What was I doing 10 years ago?
I had just turned 12! Man those days were awkward... I was in 6th grade at the brand new 6th grade center in St. George, and I tried to be a tomboy. I loved everything to do with sports, and I thought that flirting with a guy meant beating him at any game or activity. I had a crush on Brad Jurca- (haha!), and for the first time in quite a few years, was in a different class than Mallory an Lacey. I would have a pizza bagel every day (anybody remember eating those?) and play that dodge ball game with the cones at lunch... haha. I also started listening to the WallFlowers because the "cool" girls were listening to them. And I ended up really liking them. I was entering into Young Womens and felt really weird in there. I was always really intimidated by the older girls at that age, but ended up really loving Young Womens!. (P.S. During this same time, Jeff had just left on his mission and was in the MTC! haha)

* Put money away for my kids- School, Missions, Weddings.
* Share with our families.
* Take a big vacation and stay at a really fun place.

5. 3 bad habits:
* Biting my nails

During Spring Break, we decided to meet some friends at one of their family cabins up on Cedar Mountain. So- We had this rule that we didn't kiss in the car, and as we were driving to the cabin, we all of a sudden turned the corner and saw this amazing sunset. "Ok- I can't take this any more!", he said, and stopped the car. I thought he just wanted to kiss me or something so when he came around the car a suddenly dropped on one knee, I was shocked! After much delay...

Ok... Holy cow...
I'm always on everyone,
telling them they need to update...
And here I am.
Sheesh.
But I finally updated!
(And I'll get to those tags soon Marci!!)
I did SIX new posts... So keep scrolling! :)

"One Year Older..."

Another year has come and gone. I'm officially 22! Hahoo... Kind of a weird age... since when I'm at home, I feel a lot older (since all my friends have a few kids) and yet, to SAY I'm 22 seems old all of a sudden. I had such a great birthday though! On friday, we drove down to St. George, and bought a new computer with our government money. We really really needed something else since our computer had no space left and was extremely slow. We also wanted a flat screen monitor. Then my mom and Kellie watched Dallin while Jeff and I went out on a real date! It was so much fun. We went down to Pasta factory (my fav!) and Jeff and I played with the camera. Then we went shopping a little bit, and ended the night with Prince Caspian. Great show! We had a really fun time! I love when I get to spend time with Jeff like that.

The next day, on my birthday, my dad called from Vegas- singing to me like Elvis, and my mom got me Photoshop Elements (a LOT easier to use than the complete Photoshop!) She also tookme out to brunch at the Egg and I. So yummy! Not everyone was ready when we left, so it ended up being just Mom, me, Kellie and Scott... Which was actually really fun- it hasn't been just us in a long time. Then Kellie, Mom and I went to Brushfire and painted some pottery. It was different and a lot of fun too!

Jeff and I headed home (after he let me spend some money at Target and hang out with Marci for a while) and found that little fairies had written on our sidewalk while we had been gone... (thanks guys!! Sorry we missed you!!)

Jeff also planned a little party for me and got me a pretty cake, and invited some of our friends over. I love that Jeff thinks of me like that. He's such a wonderful husband. I had a wonderful day and thank you to everyone who gave me a call, emailed, or sent me something! You truly made my day!! Here's to another great year!

Mama's day!

Happy Late Mothers day to all of my family and friends who have kiddos, or will have kiddos some day soon! What a great holiday! I love it.
Especially Happy Mother's day to my own mom. I love her so much, and she's always there when I need her. She has always been such a great mom, and has given up so much to give to us kids. When life was rough, she held our family together so tight. I really look up to her. Of course she has her quirks... :) But as goofy as she is, she makes me so happy. I love you so much mom. Thanks for all you have done for us, and continue to do everyday. Happy Mother's Day.

I can't believe I've celebrated 3 Mother's days already! On my first Mother's day, Dallin turned 6 weeks old, and he was getting blessed that day. I woke up to feed him that morning, and it wasjust him and I awake. I was talking to him a little bit, and I told him that daddy was blessing him. And that was the first day he really smiled. What a great Mother's day gift!
I had another wonderful Mothers Day this year. The reason I got so far behind in my blogging is because every time I got on the computer, I was trying to figure out Adobe Photoshop to makemy mother-in-laws Mother's Day gift. I really wanted to do something special for her since nobody does that often. I decided to have all the kids, grandkids, and Jeff's dad write down their favorite memory, and/or why they loved their mom/grandma/spouse. It turned out to be a ton of work... (30 scrapbook pages in three days- and learning how to used the program), but I lovedhow it turned out. And so did she. It's so satisfying to give gifts that bring on the tears... :)Obviously, I'm not going to post all 30 pages, but here's a few:

I also was busy making my mom's mother's day gift. I made her a "Happy Day Jar", and all of us (me, Jeff, Dallin, Kellie, Garrett, and Scott) all wrote 20 things that we love about my mom/memories/etc. Then I cut them all into strips, so she can read one every day, and always know how much we love her and how happy she makes us. It was a lot of fun... Again... One of those tear gifts. :)

As for me, Jeff completely surprised me this year. He's such a great husband and always does little things to show me he's thinking of me... but he's never done a big surprise like this. On Saturday while we were in Cedar, He took Dallin out while I took a nap. I woke up a little bit later to Dallin holding a white present bag. I was a little confused and had no idea what wasinside. I looked inside and found two small boxes. I thought to myself... "No way"... But Jeff- like I said- TOTALLY surprised me and got me earrings and a necklace... Like- REAL jewelry from a jewelry store- haha. I was kind of in shock- but I was so impressed!! I loved them!
On Sunday, we got to talk to Danny in Germany in the morning, went to church, and then went down to St. George. We had a little picnic with my whole family. We had a really good time. Here's some more pics from the weekend.

Sorry... Super long post... But oh well... :)

Funny little man...

My little man has some funny days. He's changing so much and is getting more and more personality all the time. Lately, he's really started to play and use his imagination a lot. He was playing with legos this week and made a little "mound" of blocks, and then started to stack a bunch on top of each other on the top. He showed me his creation, and said "Mama- a dara-dope..." I looked at him wondering what in the world "dara-dope" meant... and then it hit me... "A Parascope??"... "Ya! I dara-dope!". He also made me tall tower of legos the other day and brought it into me singing "La La Mama... Take Mama" and then showed me how to blow out the candles on my birthday "take". He makes me laugh. Here's a few videos of last week too. Just Dallin being Dallin... Enjoy.

Also: After I took this picture, I realized that my kid is still dirty... and he's in the tub... Oh well...

New Camera!!!

So I got my camera two weeks ago in the mail! I love it!! I mostly have no idea what I'm doing with it, but just holding it in my hands makes me feel more professional. I need to learn how to use all the different modes and things still... I'll get there... These are a few pictures I took at the park at Jeff's school, and at some of his students' baseball games the day after I got it. Again... I have no idea what I'm doing... but I'll get better with practice... right? And soon, (hopefully) I'll learn how to edit all these with Photoshop... one thing at a time... Here's my little stud... :)
